Annual  - The word annual refers to plants that only last for one year or one growing season. Most commonly annuals are thought of as flowers, although there are annual grasses as well as plants typically used as crops, such as lettuce and beans.

Aphids - Aphids are soft-bodied insects that suck fluids from the stems, leaves and other tender parts of plants. They often feed in groups, making them easier to spot, although they can be found singly.

Bulb – The word bulb refers to a plant grown for ornamental purposes that have underground storage organs. These organs are able to store moisture and nutrients during adverse weather conditions and remain in a dormant state until favorable growing conditions.Common bulbs are tulips hyacinth, amaryllis and daffodils.

Cone - A cone is a seed-bearing conical fruit on conifer plants, comprised of overlapping scales surrounding a central axis. The structures of cones vary and is often crucial for the identification of many species of conifers.

Deadheading - to "deadhead" a plant means to remove any of the spent blooms. Often times this promotes a plant to bloom for a second time. When the flowers of a plant start to loose their petals, they form seedheads. However if regular deadheading occurs, this keeps the energy of the plant on making more flowers resulting in a healthier plant and continuous blooms.

Deciduous - Refers to a tree or shrub that loses it's leaves every year. It can also refer to losing parts that plants no longer need such as petals after it flowers, and fruit once it is ripe.

Evergreen - A plant that retains green leaves throughout the year.

Root Ball - The "root ball" is considered the roots of the plant, and the accompanying soil of the spot where it was grown.

Runners - The word runners refers to a stem of a plant, sometimes called a stolon, that bends downward or runs horizontally along the soil producing a copy of the plant at the tip. These copies can be cut off and rooted to form additional plants. Common plants that reproduce this way are strawberries, mint and spider plants. 

Shrub - A shrub is a woody plant with multiple branches or stems, generally smaller than a tree.
